"UKip Drops the Islam Bomb" by Jake S.

People have the right to religious liberty and the right to practice these religions without persecution. Unless, they threaten the people of the United States. At least, this is view of UKip’s Gerard Batten. He is a Interim leader in the United Kingdom Independence party. He said during a speech at an “emergency general meeting”, that the Muslim people need to renounce parts of the Quran that promote violence and discrimination. Many people know him as the leader of the “Brexit” movement, but he is now known as the Islamophobic member of the European Parliament.

Though what he said was way out of line for a meeting involving the terroristic happenings in the UK, he made valid points. His quotes saying, “What I wrote there about Islam is factually and historically true, and anybody that cares to look at the history of Islam over the last 1,400 years will see that that is true” and that he “still supported the idea of British Muslims being asked to sign a text formally renouncing elements of the Qur’an ‘which allow people to justify violence and extremism’ and to publicly support equality and tolerance” are very right wing and depends on your point of view, whether or not he is wrong or right. His agreement on the idea for people to follow Islam to renounce parts of the Quran that promote violence such as 47:3-4  “Those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord... So, when you meet (fighting Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives)... If it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost.” I completely agree with the statement of renouncing the aggressive, kill infidels sections, such as the one I mentioned, but the “Death Cult” thing was out of line to say in a government meeting. But, should he be punished?

Statistics on the amount of terror attacks per country 2000-2014.

Another issue that he addressed was the terrorism from the countries with high muslim populations. Pakistan has the second most muslims in the world and has the second most terror attacks. This is mostly culture based and government based. Indonesia has the highest muslim population and very low terror attacks, but is speculated to have ties with Al-Qaeda. The idea that high muslim population is the reason for high terrorism may seem credible to the right winged people on the surface, it is usually the state of the people, amount of violence, and poverty that is already present. I disagree with this point and the “Death Cult” comment. Gerard Batten made some absurd comments about Islam bu actually might help it become more modern with the idea to renounce the verses of the Quran that promote Discrimination and Violence. But is it ethical to ask people to renounce their religions text?
