“Gun Violence and the effects on Children” by Hailie P.
“Every day in America, 17 young people are murdered with a gun,” states Maggie Thompson, who is the executive director of Generation Progress. Gun violence is an epidemic, and sadly children and young adults are increasingly being affected. These effects are destroying their mental health and possibly the future to our world. Without children there is no future, so why are we not helping to take care of them.
Although they can’t represent themselves children worldwide are becoming more and more affected by gun violence everyday. It even goes as far as gun violence passing car crashes as the leading killer in young adults. The effects of these devastating crimes is not only affecting children physically but it is also destroying their fragile mental health. Since their brain is not fully developed it is way more fragile and such a scary event as gun violence can stick with them forever. The Family Development Center located at Cornell University suggest that the kids witnessing or being affected by these crimes have a much larger change of also falling into a path of violence. This path of violence is only making a larger cycle and higher chance of these children once being affected by gun violence to them potentially being the one behind the gun in the future. Although it is a very grim way to view the gun violence crisis if nothing is changed the world will deal with the consequences by sending emotionally fragile people into the world with the hope they can make a difference.
The solution to gun violence is only possible with a break in the devastating cycle. This includes places worldwide investing in a higher education and learning programs for children to help them escape places filled with sure violence and learn there are better alternatives. Children also affected need trauma-informed programs to help them better understand and work through these problems without having to turn to violence. If you can end the cycle at its source their won't be anyone to pass on their trama to. Through therapy and counseling our world could help end such violent tendencies.

American Physiological Association states, “Prevention efforts guided by research on developmental risk can reduce the likelihood that firearms will be introduced into community and family conflicts or criminal activity.” This quote only helps to prove the fact that with treatments gun violence could drastically decline and help make the world a much safer place. With the correct help and initiative the gun violence crisis could become drastically less serious. All it would really take is determination to work together to fix a problem and the want for a safer environment to raise your children.
Young adults are this world's future. If you want a change in bettering our world our children are the first priority. They will soon be the generation in charge and taking care of them will only help them to take better care of any future generations.

I never realized how prevalent gun violence actually was in America. Especially the amount of youth deaths that occur. It really doesn't seem like a big number ,but 17 deaths per day really add up. That means that 6,205 kids die per year because of gun violence. That's a crazy stat. It's hard to believe. This blog really showed how devastating gun violence has become.
ReplyDeleteI think that if we were to to more thorough background and mental stabillity checks before a gun could be sold, then gun violence would be much less common. I also think that students should be taught the importance of speaking out to a counseler if they are mentally ill and attempt to get help. Mass shootings are a terrible crime that we should do everything in our power to stop
ReplyDeleteI knew gun violence was getting worse, but I didn't know that it is the leading cause of death in young adults. Neither one of those two should be happening, but gun violence shouldn't even be on the charts. I don't think guns are bad, but there need to be some more restrictions on obtaining them. I feel like this issue isn't talked about much by politicians. I think people are becoming complacent to gun violence more and more because they realize that arguing on restricting (not getting rid of) guns will just turn it into another useless argument. I think we can all agree that something needs to be done about this issue.
